Support For Stronger Protections From Toxic Chemicals

National Poll Shows Bipartisan Support For Stronger Protections From Toxic Chemicals

This article finds that Americans are in favor of stronger regulations of chemicals. This goes along with the film about chemicals from the plants along the Mississippi affecting the people in close proximity. The article explains that the argument was presented  robustly for both sides of the issue. I wanted to note that the people opposed in New Mexico were of the opinion that reform was necessary but the current proposal was too extreme. Many are worried about job loss and the effects on the economy.
This proposal would have companies prove that the chemicals are safe.
"Under this plan, all chemical manufacturers would be required to show their chemicals are safe in order to sell them, and the EPA would be able to limit some or all uses of a chemical that may harm the public health or the environment." My question then how do you know the chemicals are safe in a reasonable time span, and supposing this passes how do we make sure the companies do not interfere with the results.

  1. The protection and regulation of these toxic chemicals in my opinion should be the number one concern for these people. I understand that the proposals may lead to job loss, but being healthy should be top priority. These chemicals not only harm people, but they are detrimental for the plants and other organisms that inhabit the environment. EPA should impose stricter regulations, and make sure that the results aren't tampered with and the companies are abiding by these rules or face the repercussions of being fined or even shut down. Also, there needs to be in depth analysis on the safety of these chemicals, are they a mutagen or carcinogenic, and what is the overall affect on the environment (people, wildlife, and plants).
