America Leads The World in Cutting CO2 emissions.

America Leads The World In Cutting CO2 Emissions. So Why Aren't We Talking About It?

This article starts off by saying how the United States of America has now started to lead the world in the decline of CO2 emissions. This past year the USA has cut their emissions by 1.9% and the year before was the same percentage also. President Obama when he first took office instated a bill that said the US would cut their CO2 emissions by 17% by 2020. At first this seemed completely out of reach, but now scientists are starting to look at the progress and have decided that the goal the President selected for the US may not be out of reach. A few reasons why the US is not talking about this significant success is because although the CO2 emissions have decreased, the recession is still lingering and that was Obama's first priority. Secondly, this success has transferred the energy industry to a new source of natural gas, previously coal being the main source of energy for the US.

  1. While this is promising, I feel like it might not be enough, seeing as the US is second only to China in CO2 emissions, and we alone account for almost 20% of the World's CO2 emission. It's a serious greenhouse gas, and I think more people need to realize that we're doing something to slow our emissions so that they can be encouraged to make further cuts.
