Ice melt found across 97 percent of Greenland, satellites show

Nicolo E. DiGirolamo, SSAI/NASA GSFC, and Jesse Allen, NASA Earth Observatory

In this article, NASA representatives describe their views and findings over the melting of Greenland's ice.  Their findings were so surprising that some scientists thought there had to be some type of error.  After reading that Greenland has enough ice to raise the sea levels by 23 feet (if all of its ice melted), I feel that we as humans need to reconsider our ways to prevent that from happening.

  1. I believe that the first step is that people have to become more conscious about their environment. Allot of the media shown on TV or other local news stations or article chooses to overlook these sort of problems and focus on other things such as politics and money. Many of our people are not aware to what's going on therefore it's hard for them to be more active and involved in changing these problems.

  2. I'm also taking Ecology at UT right now, and we've discussed the serious impact that the melting of Greenland's ice sheet will mean for areas around sea level. It's been very likely linked to the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere as a result of human actions. If anyone is interested in reading more about this, I'd encourage you to give the IPCC report a look, it has a lot of good information about scientific research into climate change and what it means for human and animal populations

  3. This has been a topic discussed in a class I took in my senior year of high school. It was no surprise that I learned about this dilemma in my AP Environment Science class. The facts given by this article are almost identical to the ones I was told some time ago. But I believe the bigger issue is that not many people know about this issue, and they may go on with their lives not ever knowing the looming disaster that could occur. If anything, we should spread the word first before taking any action.
