Human Activities Are Responsible for More Extreme Weather

There has long been speculation that the more extreme droughts and heat waves in Texas, wetter weather in Australia, and the record-breaking heat across the globe are results of human-produced global warming. In "Texas drought, British heat linked to climate change", the Chicago Tribune, citing a report by the NOAA, explains that extreme weather events, like the devastating heat waves in Texas in the last few years, are more likely to occur now with the influence of human-produced global warming than they would have been in the past.  In fact, during a La Nina year, climate change makes a heat wave in Texas 20 times more likely than in the 1960s.  And even though these scientists are still not able to say definitively that global warming is causing the more extreme weather, they can use probabilities to demonstrate a connection.

How bad will it get? What can we start doing now, as Texans, to keep this from getting worse? What major industries do you think are most at fault? Is water conservation enough?

  1. I think this article is extremely interesting. A lot of the time people don't pay attention to the fact that their everyday actions are hurting the environment. And even though it may not be greatly affecting them, it will hurt people a lot more later on in the future. Another article that people should look at too is: http://news.discovery.com/earth/climate-change-roll-in-nov-elections-120710.html . It explains how even the people who are leading our country are neglecting something that is very important for our nation and for the world.

  2. Very informative however the issue of global warming and climate change has been in existence for quite a while and nothing seems to have improved. Is it possible that if things get worse the government will have to take forceful measures against citizens in order to preserve the land and exactly how effective will it be. It seems that with industrialization and technological growth comes severe consequences.
